Fireplace Project Update

So I thought it was time for a quick update on where things are at with the fireplace and joinery project. So, the joinery went in….and it went in quickly. I had drawn the design up to scale and then worked with the joiner to make it all come to life. A really smooth process because the joiner is fantastic and I had done all of the pre-work in terms of drawing the design to scale and really knowing what we wanted in this space.

After an onsite measure and consultation, he took my drawing away and came back the next week with the joinery to install it. See the pictures below for a glimpse of it coming together.

I also chose some lights to go above the joinery. I wanted them to be a black and chrome mix to work in with everything else that is going on in this room. It is an open plan kitchen living and dining space (nothing out of the ordinary) so I wanted the style to tie in with the kitchen. I was originally considering using a picture light because I really love that look, but I then decided to go with something that was more in keeping with the kitchen island pendant lights. I am happy with the decision. See below for a picture of the light I went with and the joinery installed (but not painted).

Next the painting of the joinery got underway. It has been given several coats of paint and has come up really nicely. It will most likely get another coat once the bricks are on just to cover any marks made during that process. Same goes for when the lights arrive and are installed.

For now though, we put the furniture back and got out treasures collected over time to style the shelves up. There are books to come too and once they do, we can style it properly. It will all have to move when the bricks are put on but it is nice to have it looking reasonable in the meantime. I think it is starting to take shape and gives you a good idea of how it will all come together. We also need to get on to finding the piece of timber for the mantle - I am sure I have already mentioned that we are going for an old reclaimed piece that we can cut to size which I think will look great. So here are the photos of what it looks like now……..I can’t wait to be able to show you the finished product. I hope you like it.
