Door to Door - How to Make a Bright Front Door Work

On the theme of exterior house colours, I have also been looking a bit at front door colours. Are you into doing a feature colour on your front door? I have come and gone with this idea for my own home a few times. I have mentioned before that I love how colour is used on residential homes overseas, like in the UK. Those old homes with cute front doors painted bright colours are uplifting and give each place a good dose of personality. A traditional home with a pop of colour modernises it in the best way. Look at these gorgeous examples I found on Pinterest.

So how do you make a coloured front door really work? I think it works to best effect when it isn't competing with other colours. By this I mean if the rest of the exterior is pretty neutral (white, stone like the pictures above (should you be so lucky) or a soft more neutral colour). The dose of colour the door brings really works best when it is clearly the star of the show. I think in the examples above the homes still look sophisticated but the colours they have chosen are fun and imply a little bit about the personalities of the people that live there. So I am keen to know, would you paint your front door a bright colour??
